July 10, 2020My sales mentor forever convinced me of SEO’s (Search Engine Optimization) importance with a simple anecdote.
She was a top 1 percent performer for Zillow Group. Zillow Group helps real estate agents promote their brand and services.
My mentor was speaking with a real estate agent and commented on what a great website the realtor had. The realtor was ecstatic. She had put time, money and energy into her website and it was being recognized.
There was a catch though.
“I found your website on page 8 of Google. When was the last time you went past page 1 when searching for a product or service.”
The forlorn response of “never” followed. The realtor realized no one was viewing her website. It was not advancing her mission to build her business and provide a reference for prospects and clients.
Earning business in AEC comes in many forms. Referrals are the dominant means to new business acquisition but relying on one channel for business development is insufficient. Like all things in life, diversification is key.
When working to elevate SeeSaw’s organic ranking on Google I sought our SEO “experts.” They sent proposals in the thousands of dollars.
Before committing that kind of money, I wanted to see if I could handle our SEO improvement.
In short shrift I realized not only was it possible, it was quite easy.
If you want to begin the journey to improving SEO here are the must have resources. Two books and two websites. Commit to the books and websites and you very may well discover you can take your website to page one of Google with a minimal investment.

- “SEO 2020” by Adam Clarke. Mr. Clarke provides more tips and activities to commit to in your effort to elevate your organic ranking. And once again, free with Kindle Unlimited.
- www.semrush.com. Semrush’s free package allows you to gain insights on the keywords and activities your competitors are taking to be at the top of the organic search listings.
- www.neilpatel.com. Mr. Patel is one of the most prominent figures in SEO optimization. Plug in your website and gain a wealth of information about where you website is today and how it stands to improve through SEO optimization.
